Specifically, the overall measure of Job Uncertainty exhibited positive correlations with analogous measures of uncertainty found in quality and production roles, suggesting strong convergent validity across functional areas.
Furthermore, Job Uncertainty was positively correlated with the implementation of advanced manufacturing techniques, organization size, and higher salary levels. This reinforces the notion that roles characterized by high uncertainty require greater skills and are typically found in more technologically advanced or larger organizational structures. The sub-dimension of Job Interdependence also showed positive correlations with both organization size and the use of skill-based pay systems, confirming its relevance in highly coordinated work environments (Dean & Snell, 1991; Snell & Dean, 1994).
Reliability
Internal consistency reliability was assessed using Coefficient Alpha. The reliability estimates indicated acceptable internal consistency across the different job types sampled in the initial studies. The calculated Coefficient Alpha values for the overall combined measure of Job Uncertainty, as well as for each individual dimension (Complexity, Variety, and Interdependence), ranged from .69 to .80.
