It is recommended for use when teams face especially challenging or critical tasks, as high collective self-efficacy is a crucial predictor of successful performance under pressure. The scale can be administered via web-based surveys (CSAQ) or through verbal interviewing formats.

Construct

The I-KSWE measures Kollektive Selbstwirksamkeitserwartung, or Collective Self-Efficacy. This concept originates from Albert Bandura’s socio-cognitive motivation theory (1982), which defined individual self-efficacy as the subjective certainty of overcoming challenges based on one’s own talents and abilities.

Collective Self-Efficacy extends this notion to the group level, referring to the shared expectation among group members that they can succeed and achieve positive results, even when facing adverse circumstances or critical constraints (Guzzo et al., 1993). It describes a generalized conviction about the team’s competence to master ambitious challenges and overcome resistance, serving as a critical predictor for various team effectiveness criteria, such as group performance and satisfaction.

Validity

The validity of the I-KSWE is supported by strong evidence across convergent, criterion, and incremental domains.

Convergent Validity: Substantially positive correlations (all p < .01) were found between the I-KSWE and established team constructs: Team Cohesion (r = .67), Transactive Memory Systems (r = .59), Transition Processes (r = .44), Action Processes (r = .42), and Interpersonal Processes (r = .45). These results confirm that the I-KSWE measures a construct theoretically aligned with, yet distinct from, other key aspects of team functioning.

Criterion Validity: Criterion validity was established through the strong correlation with Team Creativity (r = .61, p < .01), indicating the I-KSWE’s utility in predicting important team outcomes.

Incremental Validity: In a stepwise multiple regression analysis predicting Team Creativity, the I-KSWE explained an 8% incremental variance (β = .40, p < .001) beyond the contribution of the other correlated team constructs. Reliability
