The Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) is a comprehensive, dynamic system built upon extensive collections of item banks. An item bank is a meticulously curated set of questions designed to measure a single, specific concept, such as depression, fatigue, pain, or emotional support. PROMIS is designed to measure three overarching, global domains of health and well-being: physical health, mental health, and social health. These instruments offer flexible administration options, including traditional paper-and-pencil short forms and highly efficient, personalized assessment via Computer Adaptive Testing (CAT).
