Timed Up and Go Test

Abstract

The Timed Chair-Stand Test (TCST), frequently referred to as the Five Times Sit to Stand (5xSTS) test, is a rapid and simple performance measure utilized for the evaluative assessment of muscle strength and functional mobility in clinical populations, particularly in older adults. The test requires the patient to complete five consecutive cycles of standing up from a chair and sitting back down as quickly as possible, without using their arms for support. The time taken to complete the task is recorded in seconds by a trained clinician or physiotherapist. This instrument is available in a standard version appropriate for general adult and geriatric populations, as well as a specialized version adapted for individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
